Nurses' week takes place between Thursday, May 6 to Wednesday, May 12, 2021.  It takes place annually worldwide to acknowledge nurses' contribution to the health of the community.  During the Covid-19 Pandemic, nurses have worked tirelessly on the front lines to ensure that people affected are cared for.  With the distribution of the vaccines against Covid, it made it possible for us to celebrate Nurses' week in person again.  The pandemic made it a bit more complicated, but with perseverance and careful planning, we were able to celebrate and recognize the best Filipino-American Nurses in Austin.

Aside from celebrating Nurses' Week in the month of May, we are also celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.  We also pay tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success.  The Philippine Nurses Association of Austin, Texas (PNAATX) collaborated with other Filipino organizations in Austin like Austin Filipino-American Association (AFAA) and The Feast Texas.  We had an epic celebration of Filipino fellowship as we recognized our frontliners.  It was also a time for us to show our solidarity and response towards Asian hate crimes.

Thank you to members and non-members who attended and celebrated this important event with us.  We look forward to your participation in our future events.

We are gradually and reliably being recognized as one of the Filipino American organizations in the state of Texas.  The article written by columnist Ryan Tejero summarizes the organization's mission and vision, also enumerating events and activities recently completed.  We would like to share another accomplishment being featured in ONE PHILIPPINES November 2020 issue.  Please read more in the link below.  If you want to read this specific article, go to page 16.

I'm new to this!  I joined the Philippine Nurses Association Austin Texas on September 21, 2019 and never expected to land on a position that day.  I rarely volunteer but to my surprise, I raised my hand when they needed someone to write the minutes of the meeting and the rest is headache and history!  I say that I am proud to be a pioneering member and secretary of PNA ATX.  I could say that it is not an easy task because everything is a first time experience for most of the officers.  We did experience a lot of challenges and accomplishments, but I believe it was worth it.

2020 was designated "International Year of the Nurse and Midwife", and I could literally say it is, because of this pandemic.  PNA ATX planned activities were on hold after the successful Induction of Officers and Gala night last February 15., 2020 but PNA ATX continued to work silently with members affected by the pandemic, also giving donations to our fellow Filipinos back home.

A new year is coming soon signifying a fresh new start,  a new chapter in life, new questions to be asked, new answers to be discovered, new goals and missions to be accomplished.  PNA ATX will start early by giving our members a gift that will encourage every member to communicate effectively and give back to their communities utilizing their professional skills and expertise.  PNA ATX is reformatting it's official website and I encourage every member to follow and share this good news!
